19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts

A resurgent the Russian player won his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and finally splitting with long-term trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought competitive victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved 21 titles at 21 different events.

"For the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters at once, so to secure a trophy is particularly special," stated ranked player the champion.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in that event in the past months.

His retrieving approach and regular outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was finished.

However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to force a final set.

Moutet defended four early chances in a tight third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a volley after over two and a half hours.
